Carolyne Wright

Carolyne Wright graduated from Seattle University’s Honors Program and received Master’s and a doctorate in English and creative writing from Syracuse University. She studied with Elizabeth Bishop at the University of Washington and with William Stafford, Madeline DeFrees and Richard Hugo. She has published eight books and chapbooks of poetry, three volumes of poetry translated from Spanish and Bengali and a collection of essays. Her most recent collection, “A Change of Maps” (Lost Horse Press, 2006), was a finalist for the Idaho Prize and the Alice Fay di Castagnola Award from the Poetry Society of America. Her previous book, “Seasons of Mangoes and Brainfire” (Eastern Washington UP/Lynx House Books, 2nd edition 2005), won the Blue Lynx Prize and the American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation. Forthcoming is an anthology of translations from Bengali, “Majestic Nights: Love Poems by Bengali Women” (White Pine). Wright is on the faculty of the Whidbey Writers Workshop M.F.A. Program, and on the board of directors of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP).
